Grand alliance’s first list likely on March 15

All the four ‘grand alliance’ partners, Telugu Desam, TRS, CPI and CPI (M) are likely to release their first lists of candidates for the Assembly elections on March 15.

The four partners plan to hold more number of sittings and intensify their efforts to iron out differences over sharing of seats including the number and selection of constituencies and clinch the issue in the next ten days. Each of them would release the list separately on that day.

Telugu Desam’s Polit Bureau which met here on Wednesday discussed ways of convincing the party aspirants from constituencies to be allotted to alliance partners as well as the leaders from other parties.

Members believed to have emphasised on the need for party men to show a spirit of sacrifice, as the common goal was to defeat the Congress and ensure that the party returns to power.

Considerable time was spent in the meeting on making the party manifesto attractive.

At a press conference after the Polit Bureau meeting, TDP general secretary, Kadiam Srihari and party’s leader in Legislative Council, Dadi Veerabhadra Rao said the party was confident of overcoming ‘small problems’ over selection of constituencies through talks and come up with the list by March 15.

Highlighting how a Minister, Konathala Ramakrihsna went on a foundation laying spree in Visakahapatnam even after the announcement of the election schedule, they said when the party complained to the District Collector, he did not take any action.

They warned the District Collectors against acting as the agents of the ruling party and reminded that they were returning officers now and functioned under the Election Commission.

If some of them continue to act in a partisan manner, the party would petition the Commission and seek special officers from other States.

To a question if he was prepared to ‘sacrifice’ his seat, Station Ghanpur in Warangal as the TRS too appeared keen, Mr. Srihari said he would abide by the party’s decision. He said there were indeed problems with some constituencies but these were not insurmountable. “Everything will fall in place in the next few days”.
