‘CPI (M) cannot stop Telangana formation’

It is for the people to decide and a resolution should be passed in the Assembly: Yechuri

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has reiterated that its principle position against smaller States continues to be in place, but asserted that the party will not be in a position to stop formation of separate Telangana State.

“Who are we to give Telangana. When Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand States were formed despite our opposition, why will Telangana stop,” CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury said.

He said it was for the people of the State to decide and a resolution should be passed in the Assembly. The TDP and TRS , both partners in the Grand Alliance, have already taken a decision in this direction. “Things will go on when all the forces are determined,” he said replying to queries on whether the party will support separate Telangana. Mr. Yechury said the people were seeking a “shift in the political trajectory of the country” based on which the Left parties had intensified their efforts for forming an alternative to the Congress and the BJP.
